Approximately fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Cars, walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a release.

Police state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.

The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.

Officers then located multiple other marked cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement report initial examinations show the liquid was most likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no clue as to its source; investigators are currently not informed of any harm in connection with the incident," they stated.

Municipal representatives announced they were working "to solve the incident" and have asked to the public for tips.

A high-ranking political figure commented the attack made him without words and had to be resolved rapidly.

"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on online, referring to the death of nine individuals by a assailant targeting residents of migrant background in 2020.
