The Video Platform Provides Users Control to Reduce Artificial Intelligence-Made Media in Personal Streams

Users will soon have a updated setting that allows them to cut down on the quantity of AI-created content appearing in their streams. This move comes as the service announced that it now features over 1 billion AI videos.

Trial and Implementation

This change is undergoing trials over the next few weeks before a widespread launch. This shift comes amid a surge in AI-generated material, fueled by emerging video-generation tools.

AI Content on Other Platforms

It has been noted that almost one in 10 of the fastest-growing channels on a popular video site exclusively feature clips produced artificially. A large amount of this content is deemed low-quality AI content, a label for substandard, bulk-generated content that is frequently absurd or dreamlike.

“We know from our community that numerous viewers like content made with AI tools, including AI artwork to science explainers, and we intend to give people the power to increase or decrease of that, based on their own choices,” stated a spokesperson.

Volume and Proportions

The service announced that there are currently over a billion videos on its app identified as AI-generated. Collectively, more than 100 m videos are submitted to the service daily, making AI content a minor portion of its overall inventory.

How to Adjust Settings

Viewers will be in a position to limit or boost the volume of AI content they view by accessing the “manage topic” option in the application and choosing “AI-generated content”. Additional categories that are already be modified under the setting include news, style, beauty, and dance.

AI Disclosure Rules

Its guidelines mandate content makers to label convincing AI-made content, and it forbids harmful AI impersonations of well-known individuals or critical incidents. Any realistic artificial content that is unmarked can be deleted under its community policies.

Furthermore, the platform will henceforth apply an artificially created tag to content created with its proprietary AI systems, or flagged by an industry-wide initiative for recognizing AI-generated material. This action is intended to help prevent users from attempting to bypass the tagging system.

AI Literacy Programs

The platform is also introducing a two million dollar AI literacy fund for professionals and institutions to create informative material about ethical AI use. This program will benefit charitable organizations focused on training coding and technology.

Platform Protection

The platform has supported its moderation strategy, following discussion over plans to cut jobs for a large number of content moderators in the UK. It is expected to cut a significant number of roles in its content moderation division in the UK capital, with worker representatives and online safety experts voicing alarm that staff are being displaced by machine-led review.

A trust and safety lead clarified that staff-based oversight would still have a role, but AI can shield workers by eliminating the most graphic content ahead of it is viewed by humans. The company stated a significant reduction in explicit and harmful content reviewed by content reviewers over the last 12 months due to intervention by its AI tools.

“We think that it’s essential to integrate people and machines to keep the platform safe,” the official commented. “We’ll have humans as integral to the approach, but we further consider it’s very important to minimize viewing of unsafe media as swiftly, which is the area in which a lot of the machine support is making a difference work at speed.”
